Thread: Walks at Knole

  1. Default Walks at Knole

    Hello everyone,

I've just found this forum thanks to Avril Ferguson. She suggests I advertise on the forum so here we go...

We're going to put on some guided walks in the park over the winter, led by volunteers (they're all very knowledgeable), free of charge. The park is very different in the winter, as many of you will know: much quieter, and it's easier to see the wildlife. Without hordes of cars about, it's also much easier to imagine the place as it used to be in years gone by.

Anyway, if you would like to come on one, they're going to be going throughout November, December, January and February, and we open again in March so our regular walks programme starts again. We're going to meet in the upstairs lounge of Sevenoaks library at 11.15am, and there will be two walk leaders per walk this year, so you get your non-money's worth!

Dates can be got by ringing the Tourist Office (450305) or by looking at the "what's on" calendar on this website.

Came across this video on YouTube of the Beatles visit and just wondered if 'the tree' you see in the opening scenes is still there and not destroyed by The Great Storm?

Guess I ought to try one of the walks ...

Anyone have any memories of their visit

Sadly Youtube is blocked here at work but I think I know the one you mean... I took a Beatles fan around on a walk in the summer, and he said he knew which tree it was. If he was right, I'm afraid it is now just a stump! It's been cut down - why I don't know. It is on the golf course, but they have trees on the golf course. Perhaps it was diseased or something.

    Sorry!

No-one who works here has any memory of their visit, as our longest-serving member of staff has only been here for 19 years. It's possible that Lord Sackville might remember it from his youth... I suppose we could ask him!
